Face mists: DIY How to make distilled Jasmine water at home

Have you ever used distilled Jasmine water? Indian women are very fond of Jasmine flower or mogra/mallige flowers. Jasmine flower smells sweet as a perfume and fills the surrounding with its fragrance . We often adorn our tresses with gajra not just to look beautiful but also smell good & feel good. Not just this jasmine has  great beauty benefits.

However,  jasmine can’t be used directly. You need to crush it and infuse it in oil or water, or use essential oil.  I tried preparing jasmine water/mist as it is summer and scorching heat has made our skin dull and tired. Jasmine water refreshes the skin, it makes  skin soft leaving you smelling nice.. it calms our senses and relaxes us completely 🙂 It also moisturizes and gives a fresh feel.  Overall it is made for summer !!! And also Jasmine is very beneficial for hair. I will make a post on jasmine infused coconut oil soon.

Now a days, distilled mogra water is in vogue. I thought of buying one from kama ayurveda.. Most of us have been loving their expensive rose water. But instead of putting a hole in our pocket why not make it at home.  Yes, I am explaining the distillation process at home using the hot-cold medium . Otherwise you could also get store bought distilled water and boil jasmine in it . I prefer doing it this way .The purpose of using distilled water is it absorbs better into the skin and gives best results.

How to make distilled Jasmine water ?? Refer to the steps below…

Take few jasmine flowers of any variety & wash them well. In a big vessel , take about one and half cups of water & bring it to boil.

Add Jasmine flowers to the boiling water . You could also crush them . Now take a glass bowl , preferably the borosil one . The borosil ones that I have are large ones and I will not be able to collect the steam , Hence I choose the one I have in the picture.

Place the glass bowl in the center of the vessel and cover the lid upside down as we have to place the ice cubes there.

Place ice cubes on an inverted lid as shown in the picture . You can add more of ice if it melts soon. The purpose of placing ice is that the steam is collected in the center of the lid and drips into the glass bowl instead of falling back into the boiling water. This collected water in the glass bowl is the distilled Jasmine water.

You can take out the lid after 20 minutes of boiling or more, you can also see that the steam is collected well into the glass bowl.. When it cools down ,  take out the glass bowl and pour it in a glass container or a spray bottle. Yay !! Your distilled jasmine water is now ready.

That’s it !! Now How to store it….

You have to store this distilled Jasmine water bottle in a refrigerator because we have not added any preservatives in it. Use it on your face with a cotton ball. If you have a spray bottle , you could spray it as needed. This gives a very fresh look to the face and also moisturizes the skin . Your skin will be soft and supple . You can use it as a makeup primer or just to freshen up your face. The leftover boiled water can be used to rinse your hair. It gives a shine to your hair.

I hope you enjoyed reading the post. And I guess it will motivate you to make your own distilled jasmine water. Alternatively , If you are not a fan of jasmine you could make distilled Rose water with the same process as above.

Do let me know how you liked the post.

I will be back soon with a new post . Please leave your comments and suggestions below.
